FrothLyfe: Riding Oceans, Capturing Moments — and Gliding with SipaBoards

What happens when you sell everything, buy a sailboat, and commit to full-time ocean life?
For Yosh and Bonita from Sailing Nandji, it’s not just a lifestyle choice — it’s a full-blown, open-ended adventure. Their project FrothLyfe has grown into a digital sailing series, a vibrant online community, and a real-time chronicle of life off the grid.

After sailing through Southeast Asia, Australia, and now deep into Africa’s coastal waters, they’ve inspired thousands to embrace freedom, simplicity, and the power of going all in.

We’re proud to support them with SipaBoards electric SUPs, offering a new way to explore, access remote shores, and enjoy quiet moments on the water — even when the tide gets rough.

Here’s what they had to say …

How has the electric SUP from SipaBoards changed the way you explore your surroundings – especially with your current lifestyle off-grid and on anchor

We received the SipaBoards SUP while moored in the Knysna lagoon, South Africa — an all-weather anchorage with flat, often glassy water.

Despite the approaching winter, we were able to get out on the water and explore the shallows where our dinghy simply can’t go. Later this year, once we’re back in the tropics, we’re excited to use the SUP as transport to and from the beach when we’re anchored offshore!

Any standout stories or moments where the electric propulsion really came in handy?

Knysna lagoon can be tricky during full moon — tidal currents run up to 3 knots. That makes paddling hard, especially on cold, frosty mornings where you want to avoid splashing yourself!

With a little help from the electric motor, we were able to get safely back to Nandji 2 — no splashing, just smooth cruising.

You’ve lived full-time on the water for years now. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone dreaming of doing the same – and one misconception you’d like to bust?

If you’re thinking about it — just do it! You’ll never regret trying, but you might regret not trying. Start small: join your local yacht club, crew on boats, or charter a sailboat before buying.

And the biggest misconception? It’s not all rainbows and lollipops. Life on the water is rewarding, but also exhausting. You’re always watching the weather, fixing something, staying alert. But if you love nature and a good challenge — nothing beats it.

FrothLyfe has become more than just sailing – it’s a whole vibe and a growing online community. How do you balance documenting your journey with living in the moment?

If you love what you do, it never feels like work. We’ve always enjoyed filming and taking photos — even before sailing.

We do take breaks and plan ahead so there’s less pressure. Honestly, filming adds to the joy of discovery — it’s one thing to see a place, and another to capture it for life.

What’s next for you guys? Any new oceans, upgrades, or ideas brewing?

Right now we’re in the middle of the South African winter, so we’ve swapped sails for wheels and are exploring southern Africa in a 4×4 Land Rover Defender. The wildlife here is both terrifying and fascinating.

Later this year we’ll head back to Nandji, sail to Namibia, cross the Atlantic to Brazil, and then head north to the Caribbean for the next cruising season.

Hopefully sipping Piña Coladas in Grenada for Christmas!
